Armed with an acoustic guitar, SHEIN rings, and thrifted jorts, junior Chad Wallace represented the Stony Brook Gaslighting Club at the Fall 2024 Involvement Fair at the SAC Plaza. When asked about the founding of the club, Wallace said, “What are you even talking about? Are you okay?” The denial of the club’s existence has left many wondering if they actually scanned the QR code to join the club’s GroupMe. Despite having over forty names on the signup sheet, Wallace responded to inquiries, saying, “There never was a Gaslighting Club. Have you been taking your meds, babe?”
Amongst all of the confusion, the Gaslighting Club’s first meeting is rumored to be a movie night meet and greet with several movie options such as Pulp Fiction, American Psycho,
and Fight Club.
Those who have interacted with Wallace in the past say he is well-qualified to lead the Gaslighting Club. Emily DeGross says “Freshman year, I met Chad in my Gender Studies class. He had an airpod in while listening to The Smiths. I asked if he thrifted his tote bag, and he just responded with quotes from feminist literature.” An anonymous student said “Chad once told me I was ‘overreacting’ and ‘you’re overthinking’ when I asked if he had the notes from the lecture I missed.” Despite Wallace’s denials, SBEngaged does in fact list the Gaslighting Club as an active and recognized organization, with meetings every Tuesday at 7PM in the library, room N4072.
In related news, the SBU Mandela Effect Society was supposed to hold their first meeting on September 16th, but no record of the club was ever found.
